The innovation Eye workshop was a partnership between the Politecnico di Milano and the Diotima Society to develop new ideas and value systems following the methodology of the Strategic Design approach. It was held in the first semester of 2014. 

Context

For the first edition of Innovation Eye the theme chosen was Food, sector  that was strongly related to the Expo 2015 that took place in Milan between may to october of 2015. The students from the master of Strategic Design were divided into 5 groups to develop new innovative ideas for the Food sector. Each group recieved a sub-theme to start the project.

5 - Nutrition and Health

As well as 5 companies related directly and indirectly to the food sector were invited to the project to share their needs and experience in order to recieve the new innovative ideas at the end of the workshop. The companies were:

1 - Bolton Group
2 - Ponti 
3 - Candy 
4 - Fluid-o-Tech 
5 - Nutrition and Santé

The Workshop was divided into four mains phases:

1 - Exploring
2 - Scoping
3 - Discovering
4 - Happening

In the first phase, exploring, the groups did the research about the sub-themes to get in touch with the new trends in the Food sector. The final outcome of this phase was a detailed set of information.

In the second phase, scoping, the students used some tools to organize all of the information gatered to come up with new connections related to the sub-theme. After that all groups worked on the creation of Inforgraphics alongside a company from the USA, specialized on data visualization and graphic design, Lemonly.
 The final outcome of this phase were the opportunity gaps where the companies can work on new ideas for their business.

In the third phase, discovering, each group received 2 companies for which to develop new ideas and values according to their core business. Many tools were used in this part of the project and the final outcome was the proposal that was detailed in the last phase. My group developed concepts for Ponti and Fluid-o-Tech.

For the last phase of the project, happening, we developted the final proposals for each company. The new ideia for Fluid o Tech is called U-mix-sir, a cooktail machine to be used on the HO.RE.CA system (Hotels, Restaurants and Cafes), where the final costumer can experiment and create their own drinks. Also we provided for Fluid-o-tech our metodology to be used in their R&D department, the F-lab. The final proposal for Ponti is a product service system based on a new premium bottle of aceto balsamico (Gusto) that can be reused by the costumer to create new recipes.
